Jesus showed up at the car wash
It’s a beautiful day today here in Dallas Texas about 70°. The sun is shining without a cloud in sight. What a perfect day to wash my truck.
As I’m vacuuming my truck out, to my surprise someone walked up behind me and said “Excuse me sir” loudly over the sound of the vacuum. As I turned to see who it was I found a black man wearing tattered clothes. He asked me if I could help by giving him some money and proceeded to tell me what sounded like a well rehearsed pitch. Now typically I over look panhandlers that beg for money and I’m very quick to dismiss them by saying, “Sorry, I can’t help you.” In all honesty, my first instinct is to tell them “Go find a job deadbeat!” But for some reason today God filled my heart with compassion. So I reached into my pocket and grabbed my only bit of cash, a $10 bill. Before I handed it to him I asked him “Do you know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior of your life?” Surprised, I thought to myself “Where did that come from?” He looked surprised too. He thought for a minute and said “I know who Jesus is, but with everything I’ve done in my life I probably won’t go to heaven. He don’t want nobody like me!” he said with a chuckle.
I smiled and said, “Well before I give you this money I’d like to tell you something. I think you’ll be glad to know that when you trust your life to Jesus and ask for forgiveness he wipes away all of your sins past present and future and the Bible says his blood cleanses us completely no matter what we’ve done in our past. Would you like that for your life? He said “Yes! How do I do that?” I said “All you have to do is believe in your heart and confess with your mouth Jesus is Lord of your life. Then trust your life to him completely and turn from your sinful ways and start living your life for Christ every day and all that you do. The bible says “Love your Lord God with all your heart and all your strength and love your neighbors as you love yourself.” Ask him for forgiveness and he will be quick to forgive you and you become a new creation in Christ. Your previous self is gone in an instant and you are made new because of your trust in Jesus.
And so he repeated this salvation prayer with me and I gave him a hug and said congratulations brother you are now a child of God and you are forgiven how does that feel? With tears in his eyes he said thank you for taking the time to speak with me and not turn me away like a piece of trash like most people do. I didn’t ever plan to end up like this. I’ve just had bad luck and made bad choices. We shook hands and I said, “As I see it your life is going to get much better now that you’ve trusted Christ as your Savior.” He thanked me again and turn walked away.
WOW….This is so different from what I typically do when I see someone like this because I feel like I’ve been burned in the past by someone begging for money and then lying to me about why they needed it. This time I thought it really doesn’t matter what he needs it for what matters is that he knows Christ and God can guide him from this point forward. And who knows… He may not be asking for money for much longer.
Listen and follow God‘s prompting because this opportunity has not only benefited this man but it also benefited me with the blessing of sharing the gospel in a new way that I never thought I would do. Pray for this man. I didn’t get his name unfortunately. Thank you Jesus. I am forever in your service.
